One Step at a Time…

I feel so blessed to be able to get back into blogging:)  I took a little bit of a break when my first little one arrived since it was quite an adjustment!

For all of you moms out there… I didn’t realize how emotionally difficult this journey would be.  I was excited to become a mom and knew that it would be hard, but it is unlike anything I could have imagined!  It is a different type of love than I ever thought it would be.  It’s amazing to me how God has created this amazing adventure called parenthood!

Since I have been so wrapped up in my son the last 2 months and recovering from birth, I haven’t been working out as much as I used to!  I thought for sure I would be one of those moms who starts back the week after birth, but that wasn’t me.

One reason is my birth didn’t go the way I planned so it was a difficult recovery.  Another reason is he takes up so much time during the day that it is difficult to fit working out into the schedule!  I used to love working out in the morning, but now it is spent taking care of the little one:)

I just have to keep reminding myself (and I wanted to remind you guys as well) that life is always going to make working out and eating healthy difficult.  It doesn’t mean we just give up though.  We need to make the time for the important things in life and being healthy for our loved ones is extremely important.  We just need to take one step at a time to get us back towards our wellness goals:)

We don’t need to be a size 2 pant size or have the perfect hair, but we need to make sure we are using and challenging our bodies the way it was designed to be.

I have committed to at least 30 minutes of working out 4 times a week to start back into it.  For my life that is a very doable goal if I just schedule the time and make it happen!  To start back into a workout routine try a schedule that will be achievable for you so that you can remember the amazing “workout high” you get after it:)  It will make it easier on you!

What is your goal going to be?  Even if it is just getting out for a walk once a day please make sure to schedule it in!  It isn’t as likely to get done if we don’t take the time and actually schedule it into our planners:)

If your goal has been to get into a healthy lifestyle, but you keep getting sidetracked I can help!  Contact me!  I would love to help you with your health goals and be your accountability partner:)

Make Today Count: The Secret of Your Success Is Determined by Your Daily Agenda

Alternate Approach to Pregnancy and Birth

I have learned so much these past 8.5 months!  I used to be so afraid of childbirth, and the process of having a baby.  I think one of the biggest reasons I felt this way was because of what we are generally told about childbirth.

As I started on my journey into motherhood, much like I started my journey into fitness, I put one toe in at a time and tried to learn as much as possible.  I like to learn, but I need to learn at a slower pace sometimes so I can really absorb the material.

Since I love learning more about living a holistically vibrant life, I started reading and researching natural and holistic ways that women give birth.  I found a completely different approach to pregnancy and childbirth that I never realized existed.  There really are natural ways to have your baby that aren’t scary at all, and that have made me empowered and excited to give birth!  Like most people, I always think of hospitals with women lying on their back to give birth screaming in pain.  This was a picture that was always in the forefront in my mind.  This does not have to be the case though!  There are so many options for you and your little one.  You don’t have to go to a hospital if you don’t want to, and if you choose the hospital setting then there are natural ways to give birth there as well!

I would encourage you if you are newly pregnant (even if you have already had a baby before) to really explore the different options.  I am not saying you shouldn’t be in a hospital (that is where I will deliver), but we have chosen a hospital with a natural birthing center attached!  How amazing is that?  I didn’t even know those existed until I started looking more into it.

Along with having your baby, it is so overwhelmingly amazing how unique and strong God designed the women’s body to be.  I have one of the greatest childbirth teacher of all time, and she has really shown the amazing abilities of our bodies and what they are capable of!  I have had the privilege to hear story after story of amazing births from women that really loved the process.  I never knew anyone who loved childbirth so much!

Our bodies were made to deliver babies.  This is a shocker to people, but they were made to deliver babies even without any medication!  Now let me stop there… I am not saying that there isn’t a place for it (because there certainly is) especially in life or death situations.  Unlike what we normally see though, our bodies weren’t designed to be in a lying position for childbirth.  One of the biggest take aways from my birthing class is to move around and be in positions that are better for the baby to move out of the body.  Your midwife or doctor can be a great resource as to help share what some of these positions are!

This blog post isn’t for sharing specifics, but I just wanted you to know that there are other ways to deliver that aren’t scary!  My childbirth instructor always tells me that the more knowledge you have over the situation the less you will fear.

I want to encourage you to try to seek out information on what a natural childbirth looks like in the way God designed it.  It simply is amazing!  Seek out the best birthing options for you and your family since every situation is different:)  You don’t have to just go along with the norm because you think that is the only way… you have options!!

There are also specific exercises you can do to help your body prepare for birth! I will be sharing some of these in the next couple of weeks in a youtube video so stay tuned!

If you want to connect and ask me any specific questions please feel free!! I wish I would have had someone to talk to before trying to navigate this crazy world myself 🙂

If you are in the Akron, OH area I would HIGHLY recommend taking this childbirth class!

Here’s to a healthy pregnancy!

Disclaimer:  There are many healthy ways to give birth.  That is why you should talk to a doctor or midwife about which options are best for you and your family situation:)

Listening To Your Body

So for those of you who don’t know… I am about 5.5 months pregnant at this point!  Since I am pregnant, I have really had to modify my workout routines.  This for me is very difficult to do since I feel like if I don’t workout hard, then I won’t keep my weight off.  (I know this isn’t true though because it is 80% nutrition and 20% working out!)

I have had to make this shift, and I am learning how to really listen to my body.  I modify my workouts already, but am worried sometimes I might be pushing myself too hard.  That is why I am finding it very important to listen to my body even more.

Disclaimer:  You don’t have to be pregnant to listen to your body!! You should be listening to your body all the time.

This is something that I don’t think fitness professionals speak about as much as they should.  Everybody’s bodies are different and can do different things.  What might be easy for me, might not be easy for you!  We should also be listening to what our bodies are telling us and not push ourselves to the point of injury!

There have been a couple of times that I have had a workout routine planned, but because of how I felt during the workout I had to modify what I was going to do.  If you are feeling too sore after a day of lifting, then maybe skip the weights that day and do some cardio work.

It does not make you weak or a bad person if you do this.  It means you are smart and are taking care of your body like you should.  Like I said, this has been a very hard thing for me to learn because if I don’t workout to a certain level I feel lazy.  You aren’t lazy though, and this is one mindset that we need to get rid of!

Listen to your body… you will be glad you did!

5 Ways to Succeed in Fitness- 2015!

There is no better time than now to start working on those goals that you have pushed off for far too long!  A New Year is always a chance to start new:)  I am always so excited to see what the year is going to hold.  How your year turns out is completely up to you!  That is why I wanted to give you 5 Ways to Succeed in Fitness in 2015:)  I hope they help keep you motivated on the days when all you want to do is give up!

1. Show up everyday

Make it one of your goals for 2015 to add some movement into every single day.  You don’t have to work out for 60 minutes a day in order to see improved fitness levels.  Take a step each day and build on the previous ones.  Start small and you will be more likely to stick with it!  Eventually you will get to where you want to be if you don’t stop!

2. Set yourself up for success

Buy healthy foods instead of the processed foods you are used to eating.  If you don’t have it in the house, then you are less likely to eat it!

3. Keep it simple

Eating healthy foods and working out doesn’t have to be difficult or complex.  Just keep it simple.  One of my favorite go-to healthy meals is chicken and veggies.  You can even add a simple salad.  You are eating healthy without spending hours on finding a healthy recipe, going to the store, and making it.  In order to stick with a goal, it needs to be easy.  Make it as easy as you can.  Another idea is creating some healthy meals on Sunday that you can eat throughout the week.  Make sure you aren’t making anything too difficult.

4. Get rid of the word “CAN’T”

I know that most of us live crazy busy lives.  I am not trying to ignore the fact that our society goes at a fast pace.  Even though we all feel like we don’t have another second in our days, we need to get away from the word, “can’t.”  You can do anything you set your mind to.  Even if you are the busiest person on the planet, you have time to work out and eat healthy each day.  It might look like someone else’s workout, but you can be creative.  We have gotten so used to excuses that we need to stop!  I like the saying, “If something is important to you, then you will make time for it.”  This is the same way with working out.  I know you might not want to, but it is one of the most important things you can do for yourself.  It should be at the top of your priority list every day.

Think of it this way:  If you don’t make the time to eat healthy and workout now, then you will most likely spend a lot of time in your life being sick.  You might not see the symptoms now, but your bad habits will catch up with you.

5. Do something you love

Everyone is different, and the same is true about your workout style.  If you are new to working out, then try a lot of different types of “workouts” until you find one you love!  I personally like a mixture, so I don’t get bored; however, I know a lot of people who strictly are yoga oriented or like HIIT workouts.  Find what works for you, and stick with it!  You will be more likely to want to work out if you find something you love.

All these ideas will help keep you on track to meet your goals for the year.  Remember that fitness is NOT a destination… it is a way of life.  So let’s start making a healthier life together!

The 12 Days of Fitness- Days 11 & 12

Days 11 and 12:)

I can’t believe that the 12 Days of Fitness is already over!  It just goes to show you how fast time flies!

I want us to try two things during these days…

1. Enjoy everything in moderation.

–  I had a conversation with one of my best friends the other night.  I thought what she had to say was perfect!  She told me that she was at a Christmas party and she didn’t have any dessert.  She followed it up with saying that there was nothing really good that she would want to waste the calories on.  It is okay to enjoy goodies in moderation, but let’s leave it at that… moderation!  Only enjoy items that you will enjoy. Pick a favorite item or two and leave it at that:)  You will feel better during the party as well!

2. Laugh and take time to rest:)

–  One big part of fitness is resting.  Our bodies need rest sometimes, and there isn’t a more perfect time to accomplish this than during the holidays.  Laughing is good for our health too.  It helps us to stress less and enjoy life more.  Try to really focus on enjoying your holidays.  It is good for your health:)

I hope everyone has a great Christmas, and let’s remember the reason for the season:)

Happy Birthday Jesus!
