Motivation Monday {Week 9}

Words of Affirmation

For those of you who have read the book, “The Five Love Languages,” by Gary D. Chapman you have heard of this phrase before.  It is basically when you are affirming your spouse of your love and or affection in the form of words.

I want us to start using words of affirmation on ourselves.  We need to start thinking positively about ourselves no matter what the circumstances are!  I feel like so many people are too hard on themselves (I know I am one of these people a lot of the time).  We need to stop thinking negatively about ourselves and press on towards positive thoughts.

God created us in His image, and there are so many reasons why we are here and in this life that He gave us.  We need to stop thinking the thoughts of, “I am so fat,” and “no one will ever like me,” and start thinking we are beautiful and that if someone doesn’t like us it is his/her loss.

There is a big difference between trying to better ourselves and just beating ourselves up over things we are working on.  No one will ever be perfect and that is OKAY!  We aren’t supposed to be or we wouldn’t need Jesus.

So lets make a pact today that we will choose positive thoughts and speak positive words about ourselves.  I think you will be surprised at how life changing thinking positively about yourself can be!

Try writing down 3 positive things about yourself, and keep them close to you.  You can use the graphic and fill it in if you would like:)  When you are feel the “negativity” creep up into your life, then please read these out loud to yourself.  Everyone is amazing, and it makes me sad to think that so many people don’t see that in themselves.

What are 3 positive things about you? I would love to hear them!

Motivation Monday {Week 8}

You are loved unconditionally…

I wanted to take some time today to remind you that you are loved unconditionally.  I think we forget how God’s grace works sometimes as we go throughout our lives.  Some of us feel like God could never love us or forgive us because of things we have done in the past.  We feel like we are unworthy of His love; therefore, we don’t think about how much he does in fact love us!

It is true that we are completely UNWORTHY of His love, but by God’s grace, he has FORGIVEN every one of us REGARDLESS of your past!  He loves us unconditionally… no matter what the circumstance may be!

I love the word that represents “unconditional” love… agape.  This one word reminds us of the power of the Lord, and His love for His people.  We cannot fathom this love because as humans we live in a “conditional” world, but that doesn’t mean God can’t love us this way.  It just means that we cannot understand it.

We won’t understand His ways all the time… “Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding, in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.”  Proverbs 3:5-6… but we need to TRUST Him!

What is one thing that is stopping you from experiencing God’s unconditional love?  Identify it, then give it to the Lord.  You are way too valuable to Him!

You Are Not Alone In This…

We are coming up on the 30 Day Fitness by Faith Challenge.  I wanted to take this time before it starts to remind you about how you are not alone in any challenges you may have in this world.  The Lord is here to guide you no matter what the circumstances.

you are never alone

I was driving home from a busy day recently, when the thought came to me for this blog post.  It was an unusual day that had me feel very beaten down, and tired.  I started my usual pity party, when I felt the Lord pressing something on my heart.  I felt Him gently reminding me that I was not alone in this.  He is there, and for some reason, I forget that fact sometimes during the craziness of life.

Here are two verses to remember as we start, or are going through challenges in life:

“Be strong and courageous.  Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.”  Deuteronomy 31:6

“The Lord himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.  Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.”  Deuteronomy 31:8

I know each and everyone one of us goes through challenges.  We feel like we are alone, and that no one else could possible know what we are going through.  Whether it is just an unusually bad day, a diagnosis with cancer, or a passing of a loved one.  We always need to remember we don’t have to do any of this alone.

God is with us in all of our challenges no matter how small.  If fitness is a challenge and a struggle for you, then try this 30 Day Fitness Challenge to start making healthier choices.  If it seems too difficult, then write these verses down somewhere you can see them and look at them often.  This could be the start to something great if you let it!

I know for me it helps knowing I have an amazing Savior who is with me always and cares about me.  No matter what happens in life, He will always be there.  It is difficult remembering that sometimes since we don’t physically see Him, but try to see Him in the beauty of this world.  A beautiful sunset, the ocean, birds flying on a sunny day, or children playing in the neighborhood are all evidence of this. These are all reminders of Him and His unfailing love for us.

Remember that you are not alone in life.  He will be there to carry you through the difficult times.

I am excited to start this adventure with you, and I am also here to help you with whatever health/fitness questions you may have!

Here are some more encouraging bible verses:)

You are Beautiful… No Matter What

In writing this fitness blog I do want to make one important thing clear.  No matter your body size, shape, or weight I do believe God has made every human being beautiful and in his image.  Society today is so obsessed with how people look, and I feel like it really messes with women and some men’s self-esteem to see all these “perfect” models on the covers of magazines.  They aren’t even accurate pictures of what the people really look like because of all the touch-ups and editing they do.  These people in magazines are beautiful, but so is everyone else.

How boring would it be if we all looked alike?  God has specifically created us to be unique.  No one can ever take that away from us no matter what happens.  In my search to find better health, I have come across one realization that I hope you will remember.  No one will ever look 100% perfect in their own eyes.  By that I mean that you will always find something on your body that you won’t like.  Whether it be cellulite, a belly that has a scar on it from the c-section you had when delivering your baby, the way your teeth aren’t perfectly straight, etc.  The key to this is remembering that NO ONE is perfect!  You have these unique features for a reason.  It doesn’t mean there is something wrong with them.  Make sure you don’t focus on being perfect physically and enjoy your life.

There are some of you who are reading this that work so hard for a great body, but no matter how hard you work, you find that it still isn’t good enough, or you don’t look the exact way you want to.  I know because I have been there, and I have struggled with this in the past.  No matter how hard I trained or how much I ate right, I was never the “picture” of myself I wanted to see.  It was an unrealistic picture of myself, and now instead of thinking that way, I enjoy the hard work I put into being healthy and thank God for allowing me the ability of being able to work out.  Please take time to recognize all the hard work you do everyday for your health and celebrate!  Don’t get stuck on the small setbacks that each of us endure on an everyday basis.  Press on towards your goals!  Enjoy the life and body that God has given you.  We don’t know how long we are given on this Earth, so seek the Lord first, work out, and eat healthy.  Let’s take care of these bodies God has blessed us with!

It took me a long time to figure this out, but I am glad I finally have.  I feel like a huge weight has been lifted off my shoulders, and I hope it does for you as well.  You are beautiful no matter what stage of your life you are in.  The goal of me writing this fitness blog is to help people get healthier.  Take pride in the hard work you put into getting fit.  No one is ever perfect, so be okay if mistakes happen because they will.  You are my brothers and sisters in Christ, and I love each and every one of you.  Know that you are beautiful no matter what, and you were made in the image of our Creator!  How wonderful is that?!

You ARE Beautiful!

Keep Focused on the Main Goal

I have been reflecting over the past week about my life, and one verse has come to mind during this time that I wanted to share.  It is 1 Timothy 4:7-8.  It says, “Have nothing to do with godless myths and old wives’ tales; rather, train yourself to be godly. For physical training is of some value, but godliness has value for all things, holding promise for both the present life and the life to come.”

bible verse
Bible Verse:)

Looking back through my life until this point I see all the benefits that working out and getting into shape have done for me.  I have more energy, I can handle stress a lot better, I eat healthier, and I have more discipline to do the things in life that I want to do.  It is a win win win win win win… situation.  I know that working out and eating healthier are not the most exciting things to do at first, but they have lasting benefits.  Eventually if you continue on a path of eating better and working out, you will not know how you survived before starting this phase in your life.  It will be that good!

The same is true with our faith.  It is important to be good stewards with the body God has given us and take care of ourselves, but it is more important to be in good shape spiritually.  No matter what challenges we take on in our lives or what we are going through, we need to remember to rely on God for help and guidance.

With all the chaos in life, I feel like God gets pushed off to the end of our long list of things to focus on.  He needs to be our number one focus.  I am especially guilty of not keeping Him number one in my life.  It is so easy to get off track.  There are so many distractions that can take us away from focusing on God and His will for our lives.  That is why it is so important to develop some good spiritual disciplines in addition to good physical disciplines.

As we are preparing for our new workout programs, we need to remember to be exercising our faith as well.  There are so many spiritual disciplines like reading your bible, praying, and being a part of a Christian community, and we need to remember to make time for these in addition to our workout routines.  Some of these disciplines come easier to some than others, but we need to keep our eyes on the main goal and press on.  For me, praying comes naturally, but reading my bible takes discipline.  Luckily, since I have started working out and eating better over the past 5 years, the discipline I have developed has carried over into this aspect of my life… although I am still nowhere near perfect!

The one thing about all of these disciplines, whether it be a spiritual discipline or a physical discipline, is that I always feel better after I stick to them each day:)  I never regret any time that I spend on any one of these things.  We are so blessed to be able to have the free will to do what we want and to be able to do it when we want.  We need to remember to choose the eternal over the worldly.  Remember that worldly things eventually die and the eternal go on forever with God in heaven.  If you are struggling or having a difficult time, the Lord wants to know about it and help you through it.  I know I have said it before, but I don’t know where I would be today without Him guiding me.  He got me through times in my life that I never thought I could bounce back from.  I know He can do the same for you if you let Him.

main goal

Here’s to focusing on the eternal things as well as our physical well being!
